Sun Lakes

Sun Lakes deserves a kitchen that respects the residents

Sun Lakes is one of the original Robson-built 55+ master plans south of Chandler — Oakwood, Cottonwood, Palo Verde, Ironwood. The homes have great bones — generous square footage, real lots, mature landscaping — but most kitchens are stuck in the original early-90s build: oak cabinets, beige granite or laminate, almond appliances. Residents are increasingly relocating from California and the Midwest and bringing higher kitchen expectations with them.

Panda Marble + charcoal is the move that finally meets those expectations. Bold, timeless, and unmistakably modern. We pour it for $999.

The look

Panda Marble in its lab form — the inverse-tuxedo: bright luminous snow-white base with bold, dramatic flowing black pigment veining poured through it like ink dropped into milk and pulled across the surface. Painterly hand-poured movement, not crystalline geological veining. Mirror-glossy reflective finish that catches every overhead light. Over deep charcoal-graphite painted shaker cabinets — almost black but with a hint of warmth, satin sheen. Polished nickel slim T-bar hardware, polished nickel pull-down faucet, white marble subway backsplash with charcoal grout, two seeded-glass globe pendants in polished nickel, light grey limewash plaster walls, pale-bleached oak floor. The whole kitchen reads designed-for-the-AD-feature, but built to be lived in.

Why it works in Sun Lakes

Sun Lakes residents have specific design priorities that suburb-tract buyers don't: the kitchen needs to look magazine-finished for grandkids visiting and the bridge club lunch, AND it needs to be low-maintenance enough that they're not redoing it again in five years. Panda Marble's high-contrast pattern is forgiving (small crumbs disappear into the veining) and the timeless monochrome palette won't date the way 2008's Tuscan-brown granite did. Charcoal cabinets read sophisticated without going trendy. The combination photographs uniquely on the Sun Lakes resale MLS where almost every comp kitchen photo is interchangeable beige-on-oak, and Sun Lakes resale velocity has been trending faster as more West Coast buyers enter the market.

The catch

Bold black-veined white marble — Panda marble, Calacatta Viola, Statuario Nero — runs $130–200/sqft installed. A typical Sun Lakes kitchen — 55-75 linear feet, often with original L-shape or galley layouts — runs $7,000–$15,000 for the stone alone. Custom charcoal cabinet repaint at proper acrylic finish runs another $6,500–$11,000.

How we do it for $999

Build-A-Counter pours Panda Marble lab stone over your existing counter in 8 hours. Wall-runs only — no waterfalls. Bright snow-white base with hand-poured bold black pigment veining that's actually more dramatic than the geological version. Hyper-glossy mirror finish. Bonds permanently. Heat- and stain-resistant. Harder than the surface underneath.

The kitchen above? $999.
